Online reputation management incorporates the strategies and techniques used by individuals that help them take control of their online conversations. A person’s online reputation indicates how other people view the person or his business. Reputation is an evolving beast with many moving parts that can start or stop at any moment, depending on the situation and the environment around an individual (Becker & Lee, 2019). Although there is not a one size fits all approach to successful online reputation management, I have set a few goals for my practices for this class and beyond that, I will consider when building my reputation strategy. Firstly, I must think about my key audience groups – from my colleagues to my customers, prospects and other stakeholders, then find out where they are online. I will also consider what they might be reading; if I am looking at external stakeholders it might be traditional media outlets, Linked In or Reddit, and beyond. Once I have pinpointed that out, I can choose and engage which channels bring the most value.

Being sensible and careful about what I say online is also important when it comes to successful reputation management online after this class. Not everything will sit well with my audience, and jumping on trends and topics, just to be seen to have a voice in the space can have bad repercussions if it is not executed properly (Yuana, 2020). Building credibility and trust are also important for me. Nonetheless, I aim to build my social media presence. I cannot overlook the importance of social media. Having a Facebook or Twitter account is just not enough these days. Along with creating an account, I will focus on developing more audiences on these platforms. Blogging is the main ingredient required to boost my local SEO. This means will be posting fresh content depending on the industry type to gain more traffic.

Blog My blog’s bio is accomplishment-based. This means that I have listed my most distinctive achievements. My bio includes details about my personality, strengths, and triumphs that make me unique
and exceptional. The last paragraph of my blog’s bio is typically a summary of my educational credentials, community involvement, and honors and awards.


Facebook For my personal Facebook account, my bio contains a summary of hobbies, what motivates me, my interests, my views about life, and other issues I hold dear. I have also incorporated a brief description of my background such as my year of birth, the schools I attended, where I grew up, and my vision in life. Besides it contains pertinent information concern my life including my accomplishments, quotes that inspire me, and the type of music I listen to.


Twitter My Twitter bio contains a short 5-word sentence on what I do and another on what I want to accomplish. I have also incorporated a primary employment place since I use my Twitter account for a more public image. I have included my location and a URL on my Twitter bio for people to see more about you. Nonetheless, I have added relevant hashtags to help people understand who I am and what I do.
LinkedIn My LinkedIn bio has my current designation and the functional areas I wish to further advance my career in. I have described a brief the nature of my work and my major roles and responsibilities. I have also included my education that supports the domain that I wish to pursue a career in. In brief, I have described my previous work experiences and related them to what I am currently doing and what I wish to do in the future.
Pinterest My Pinterest bio has 160 characters that convey my inspiration and personality. It contains a short and sweet tagline that describes me strategically and simply. I have focused more on including a bio with important keywords that portray my personality and skills. I have also added a Call-to-action that tells my readers what I want them to do. This helps in getting them intrigued enough to click and subscribe to my link.
Instagram My Instagram bio contains keywords that describe my character and what I do. The first sentence calls out to what kind of person I want to view my feed and directly introduces who I am. It also incorporates a brief self-description, emojis, contact information, and hashtags that portray my personality. I have also shared my values, interests, hobbies, and beliefs to make the bio engaging and likable.


You Tube My YouTube bio contains 1 to 2 keywords that accurately describe my content and extra information concerning my content. In my bio, I have conveyed what my content is about including the topics I will cover and the themes I will tackle. It also demonstrates my unique voice and personality. The descriptions are casual and candid to help mirror the way I speak.


Online Reputation Monitoring and Analytics

After analyzing my social media traffic and mentions, I found out that my social media presence is quite good. However, I seem to be most active on Twitter and Facebook compared to other social media platforms. Since the beginning of this class, I have had approximately 250 mentions on my blog, 102 comments, and over 1000 visits. Since I am mostly active in social media, my blog’s traffic increased by 200% over the semester. I gained 102 followers on Facebook and posted about 80 posts which gathered 2,345 likes and 324 shares. I also gained 324 followers on Twitter throughout the semester and posted 109 posts that gathered 1056 likes and 34 retweets. On Instagram posted 30 posts that gained me 345 followers and 845 likes. I also gained 600 followers on Pinterest and 1003 subscribers on my YouTube channel.

Reflections on Online Reputation Building

The kind of information and content shared through social media and my blog significantly enhances my reputation both personally and professionally. This is because I possess several characteristics that have helped me build my online reputation. First, I am fast at responding to questions. Prompt responses are effective in preventing frustrated users from posting negative comments on my posts and showing them that I prioritize help them (Ryan, 2019). I am also empathetic. By responding to them with empathy, I can convey a sense of genuine concern toward their issues.

To enhance my online reputation personally and professionally, I also tend to address any negativity upfront. It can be tempting to discount negative reviews and comments from my followers. However, I must address the negative reviews as a way of showing my followers that I am there to take care of specific issues. I often address their issues with determination and patience. I also focus on staying on top of my search results by ensuring I actively engage with my followers. I always speak for the business in a way that I would be happy to tell others about.

Before this assignment, I did not understand much about online reputation management. After this assignment, I understand that online reputation management has also become an ongoing component of brand and personal reputation. In today’s world, everyone reads reviews and Googles each other to find out more info on a subject or a person (Thakur, 2019). Everyone relies on reviews now. Once my reputation is ruined it can affect my job, personal life, and business if I am a business owner.
