Also known as Intuit Mint, Mint.com is a website and mobile application in which users can manage their finances. The primary service of the company is enabling users to track credit cards, banks, loan balances, investments, and transactions through a single user interface. It also helps them set financial goals and create budgets (Mint.Com, 2021). It is great for many things including seeing all personal finances in one glance, broken down by category (checking, saving, stocks, and Amex) and then how much an individual is worth total. Mint.com regularly sends its users friendly reminders about how their banks or stockbrokers or credit cards are tagging on fees. They also tell them when their checking balance is getting “low”. Mint’s primary value-add is its budgeting interface and ability to track current spending compared with a person’s budget.

Mint.com is financed by its investors and funds raised from its ventures. The website has raised more than 31 million U.S dollars in venture capital funding from First Round Capital, Shasta Ventures, and DAG Ventures. It has also acquired funds from Angel Investors incorporating Ram Shriram who is among the earliest investors of google (Mint.Com, 2021). In August 2009, they closed the latest round at 14 million dollars and were announced as preemptive by CEO Aaron Patzer. Later, Mint was pegged by TechCrunch at 140 million dollars. Revenue was also generated from targeted financial products, referral fees from highly personalized recommendations, and lead generation.

There are many personal finance blogs and websites that offer services like Mint. An example is PageOnce, a competitor of Mint’s that is focused on mobile. PageOnce has their sync technology, and they can sync user’s accounts (PCMag, 2021). On the investments side, there are blogs such as Wikinvest which has a good sync success rate for Citibank. Wikinvest is 100% free, verified by outside sources (VeriSign and TrustE), and connects with the user’s bank account to eliminate manual entry (Wikinvest.Com, 2021). It also allows for business and personal, and is designed for small business owners, so it is very user-friendly.

I have learned that that Mint.com has a fairly simple affiliate business model. Once new users sign up for Mint.com they get access to their finances. With that access, they find credit cards, mortgages, bank accounts, and car loans, that users would qualify for (Mint.Com, 2021). Then they refer them to companies that offer those services. Finally, those companies pay Mint either a set price per lead. In services like mortgages, they probably pay upwards of $30 just for a lead from Mint. This is a simple model and extremely lucrative.

I have learned that finance blogs have many features one of them is the ability to sync all the budgets to Payday, so users always know how much they have left by the end of the period. The blogs also track all the recurring payments and tell individuals the ones they have to pay within their pay period; so when individuals get their salaries, they already know the committed spending beforehand. On top of this, the blogs send weekly reports about spending patterns, run a money quiz every weekend to win a cash prize, do cashback in the app, and also offer a premium subscription that has some superpower features for tracking.

I think Mint is the best choice when it comes to getting the personal finance app for maintaining daily financial activities. It is an amazing app by which users can maintain all their day-to-day records with great ease and flexibility. Mint is the money management app that carries together all of a person’s investments. From dividends and funds to credit health and financial purposes, one can manage it in just one place (Mint.Com, 2021). They will help users to achieve all their business goals and manage things properly. My understanding is that there is currently no bill pay function within the main mint service, but I believe they have a partnership with a bill pay service.
