Effective Human Relations Communications Style Self-Assessment Exercise

One’s communication style should include skills such as confidence, friendly nature, must have respect, have good behavior, must be a listener, self-awareness, must have good body language, and above all must be honesty. Individuals should also be very conscious of how thoughts are translated, be emotionally intelligent be aware of not only themselves but also of others (Rulian et al., 2018). Listening to a person is equally important since it shows one is interested and understands what is being talked about. It opens up your communication skill and balanced output. Communication is the process the two parties have to understand themselves not by language but also by body language, it gives individuals a better result in time. I have learned several aspects concerning my communication style and how it can be improved from the self-assessment exercise.

From the self-assessment exercise, I have learned that my communication style is open, direct, and truthful. This is because I like to share my emotional state to create an understanding of my point of view while not overriding another person’s views. The exercise describes my style as a person who listens well. Once I am done with listening, I always articulate my specific thoughts through verbal or written communication. For me listening to a person or an audience is very important; it shows I am interested and understand what is being discussed. It opens up the communication channel for better interaction and harmonious outcomes.

I have also learned that my communication is transparent. Every day I strive to communicate clearly because I will always find someone that does not understand. I have successfully used simple language, created perfect moments, won arguments, convinced people, provided comfort, and handled stressful situations. I am also a visual communicator. A good part of what I talk about is how I do it. I am still working on using body language effectively, but I am on the right path. I am not intimidated by addressing large groups of people I have not met before, teaching a class, conducting a workshop, and making it fun. I can use many facial expressions, jokes, and physical expressions.

From the assessment I scored poorly in innovation in style 1 and style 4 which incorporates achieving, doing creating objectives and concepts including innovation. To improve on these aspects, I will follow an effective action plan. These actions sum up three things – change, solution, and simple elegance (the most compelling innovations, that are most easily adopted, tend to be elegantly simple) (Ruliana et al., 2018). By practicing activities or ways of thinking and feeling that embody change and encourage simple, elegant solutions, I will be on a path toward improving those skills. Underneath it is about staying curious and keep learning. The more that I expose myself to, the more unique patterns and connections I am going to build up in my head. That improves my odds of seeing an approach or contributing a perspective that others may not have. I will combine this with a well-disciplined approach to problem-solving and the innovations will come.

This information can be used to improve my communication styles in human relations by coming up with effective ways. Some of the most effective ways are by reading books and listening to YouTube videos. Communication is paramount in human relations. I have to be able to voice what I want out of a relationship (Kwofie, Aigbavboa & Thwala, 2020). Full transparency and maintaining my individuality are key. The best way is also to practice active listening.

In conclusion, I have learned that my communication style is open and communicative. I value relationships and teamwork. However, I perform poorly in innovation and cation. To improve this, I need to embrace change and solutions. If I carefully listen to other people, I will get to know them better and they will feel that I care and understand them. This goes beyond fostering an environment and attitude that encourages communication and remaining open and communicative.
