Characteristics of Scholarly Sources

Question 1

Scholarly sources have several important characteristics. Scholarly sources are peer-reviewed which means they have undergone a lengthy process of review and editing conducted by scholars as they determine the validity and quality of the sources (Davis, 2021). The use of technical language is also a significant characteristic of scholarly articles. They are also written by experts in their fields for other experts. Most scholarly articles have references, methodology, and statistical analysis. Nonetheless, they are often reviewed by peer reviewers or a board of experts and are usually evidence-based, authoritative, objective, and well-sourced. When properly published and written, they neither try to promote or sell anything nor provoke emotional reactions. Scholarly sources are more important in the field of academic research compared to other sources like news articles and blogs. This is because articles obtained from scholarly, refereed, peer-reviewed and academic papers are more reliable and trustworthy compared to the other reputable sources since they have undergone a rigorous review process (Davis, 2021). They also incorporate most citations and references. Also, the level of credibility and authority present in scholarly sources leads to the overall quality of academic papers.

Title IX is a civil right that protects people from sexism and sexual bias in education. In many ways, this is a landmark right (US Department of Education 2020). Title IX was created in mind for female students, but it can be applied to male students as well. Title IX addresses bias and prejudices against parenting and students and women in science and technical programs such as math, technology, science, and engineering (US Department of Education 2020). It also addresses sexual violence, gender-based discrimination, and sexual harassment. This is highly significant as a person’s gender or sexual orientation should not be able to limit one’s progression in education. Students must make sure campuses follow and ensure that they handle any case dealing with discrimination, harassment, or even violence correctly. They must be teaching one another that no school or person can discourage you from continuing your education. Remember males have every right to education as females do. That is why it is important; they are in essence getting rid of factors that otherwise inhibit the learning of others.
